The written word changes the way we live. Greek philosophers complained that no longer did we have to remember anything.
We have an idea, write it down, and return to it the next day. We can contemplate recorded past. Writting is information storage. No longer are we tied to the faulty mechanisms of memory or the elaborations associated with oral storytelling. The written word gives rise to math and logic. Today writing is digital. Letters and words are bits, electrical, they are there or they are not. This is tomorrows script. We gain and lose something with the invention and reinvention of writing. We don’t have to remember anything. These desks are collections of student graffitti “cheat sheets” covering nine disciplines.
